About A. A. Fellowship
The purpose of the African American Fellowship (AA Fellowship) is found in it name. Founded in November 1995 by Pastor Bernard Miller at a meeting held at Fellowship Baptist Church in Warner Robins, GA where the late Rev. Dr. Willie Reid, Sr. was the Pastor, the AA Fellowship was formed to unite the black churches that were members of, and affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention. This meeting took place during the Convention’s annual session at a nearby church.
It had been noted and observed that many African American congregations although affiliated with the Convention, really had no idea of what the Convention had to offer the African American Church or its Pastor. With the Convention’s rich tradition of supporting missions and mission workers the wealth of resources run deep for churches that need, desire and request assistance. The initial understanding of the Fellowship was that many churches simply were not aware of the resources afforded ministries to do ministry, nor did they know how and when to request such resources.
Also, due to the low numbers of African American Churches that were members of the Convention, it was easy for the African American Church and Pastor to oftentimes feel isolated and alone in the convention. This isolation leads to lack of presence and lack of participation.
The African American Fellowship of Georgia seeks to do TWO MAJOR things.
1. Educate the black church and its leaders on the resources afforded to the GBC church regardless of color or nationality and encourage ministry and church Presence and Participation at GBC events. Thereby, helping Pastors and leaders understand personal and congregational benefits of being more active in the Convention.
2. Fostering more fellowship with African American GBC churches throughout Georgia. This will help to dispel the feelings of being all alone in the GBC. We will strive to plan large gatherings to consist of informative workshops or mini conferences annually and in a central location with the goal to do mini quarterly gatherings throughout the state.
In the meantime, this website is designed to keep you informed with what is going on in the African American Fellowship. You will find upcoming events that will help to grow your ministry. If there is a specific need that you have in your ministry. Please do not hesitate to contact us. Many times training and workshop facilitators can come to you at no charge to you and your ministry.
